A lot is happening in Switzerland this week and here is a quick summary of the recent news release from the Swiss Federal Council on Medical Cannabis.
Yesterday, Switzerland's Federal Council lifted the ban on cannabis for medical purposes from the Narcotics Act.
The BAG's special permit for the use of medicinal cannabis will no longer be required, and the change in the law will come into force on August 1, 2022
The demand for such permits has increased in recent years with complex admin and delayed treatment which will no longer correspond to the exceptional character provided by the Narcotics Act.
The doctor and the patient will still decide whether a medicinal cannabis product should be used therapeutically.
For the majority, reimbursement by health insurance is still not possible except in a few cases.
The full release can be found on The Federal Council website.
